5 Ways to Make Your Home Cozy for Winter

The living room of this newly constructed Vermont farmhouse by Boston Interior Designer Elizabeth Swartz Interiors combines contemporary design elements with traditional architectural details, rich colors and local materials.

It’s easy to make your home cozy and inviting

Happy New Year’s! With winter in full swing, it’s the ultimate time to fluff your nest. The temperatures are dropping, the gathering season is in full effect, and friends and family are bound to drop in frequently. Here are five easy ways to make your home extra inviting.

Spark a Fire
Nothing says cozy like a crackling fire. And if you don’t have a fireplace at home, a few oversized candles help create the same mood. Be sure to dim the lights down for added ambiance.

Good Scents
The impact of the right aroma can do wonders for a room, so it’s important to update your scents seasonably. For fall and winter, go for earthy, musky aromas with lots of wood and spice in them. Skip the chemical smells of store-bought air fresheners–candles, potpourri, or even stove-top spice concuctions (if you’re feeling ambitious) will all do the trick.

Throw It Out There
Pull out a luxurious throw or two from the linen closet and leave them draped on chairs. Go for simple solid colors in luscious cashmeres, wools, and even faux furs.

Center Stage
Replace the decorative accents on your coffee tables and end tables with seasonal accessories. Beautiful bowls filled with apples, pine cones, or even acorns make great coffee table toppers. Bring out a few additional coffee table books and magazines to encourage relaxing indoors.

Pillow Talk
Toss a few extra throw pillows onto your couch and living room chairs. Go for comforting hues of golds, reds, and greens. They’ll add a burst of rich color – and a backdrop of extra curl-up-on-the-couch comfort. Explore an extensive collection of sofas and couches to find the perfect balance of style and comfort. Opt for deep-seated designs with oversized cushions for that ultimate lounge-worthy feel, or choose a sleek, modern silhouette for a more refined touch. Whatever your style, the right seating transforms your living room into an inviting retreat where every moment feels a little more special.
