New Year, New Design Project

New Year, New Design Project

Starting new home design project

With all the goals and New Year’s resolutions flying around, it’s inevitable that the interior design projects and renovations that you’ve had on your mind all year long rise to the forefront with renewed importance. “It’s finally time to redo the kitchen!” “The dining room has been in desperate need of new paint for months.” “Now’s the time for the wallpaper to come off!”

January is a great time to tackle a new project, but it’s important to keep a few things in mind to help you narrow down all your ideas. While we would all like to do every design project on our wish list, it helps to have some priorities in place.

This kitchen renovation with interior design by Boston Interior Designer, Elizabeth Swartz Interiors started on a design project wish list for this homeowner. 1. Lifestyle

Is this change something that will effect your life on a daily basis? Remodeling the mudroom for quicker, easier mornings with the kids. Finally finding a dining room table that actually fits the whole family. Replacing those window treatments that bother you every morning. These sort of quick and easy updates will make an instant, uplifting change to your home and should get bumped to the top of your to-do list.

2. Budget

Will this project sensibly fit into your family budget? Unfortunate, but true—this is a really important consideration. If now is not the time to tackle a major renovation, map out a timeline and savings plan to make that goal more attainable in the future.

3. Long-Term Goals

While instant gratification is great, it’s necessary to think about your long-term goals for your home. For example, it doesn’t make sense to re-do your living room if you are planning an addition with a new living space in a few years. Take the time to think about your master plan and whether you see yourself taking on any major renovations in the future, and then plan the smaller projects accordingly.

And if even if you aren’t planning something large, January is still a great time for a little facelift at home. Seasonal throw pillows, a fresh set of sheets, or a fabulous new piece of art all bring a refreshing feel to the home in one easy step.
