Boston Interior Designer Elizabeth Swartz Interiors combined modern outdoor motifs and rustic materials in the interior design of this White Mountain retreat that is inspired by its natural surroundings.

Create a party ready furniture plan

This time of year, I love the many opportunities for getting together with friends. It’s important to create spaces that feel welcoming and inviting to guests. Here are a few tips to setting up a party ready furniture pan for casual gatherings in your living room.

Establish a focal point. Arrange the sofa and chairs so that they face a welcoming scene, like a fireplace or beautiful view. Have this be the focal point of the whole room, letting guests know that this is a space meant for staying and socializing.

Create a welcoming entrance. You don’t want guests to be greeted by the backs of several chairs when they walk into the living room. Be aware of the paths your visitors take as they enter the room, and angle seating accordingly.

Consider the room’s flow. If you want people to mosey over to see your artwork or mingle by a wet bar, create easy paths for people to walk through and ample space for spots where you hope guests will linger.

Add more side tables. Guests always need somewhere to set down a drink. Be sure there are a few extra side tables around the living room, making it easy for visitors to relax.

Have extra chairs handy. Line the walls with a few side chairs and ottomans so you can pull them near the sofa if needed.
