Interior design for rustic mountain settings

Trends: Colored Kitchen Cabinets 3

Looking to create a rustic mountain setting?

This time of year, we often crave rustic moutain-side escapes and cozy lodges. And whether you have a mountainside retreat of your own or you simply like to bring elements of your favorite vacation spot home, have fun with rustic and wintery decor.

Have fun with rustic decor

Look for vintage posters, rustic wood  accents, antique skis, and cold-weather plants to create a relaxed ski lodge atmosphere.

In your rustic home decor, keep the palette rich and earthy. Think of foliage colors -- warm reds, golds, browns -- and look for patterns like plaids, leaf motifs, and intricate florals. An interesting mix of textures also makes a room feel cozy, so add extra pillows, textured trims, and rugs to warm up the space. And of course, look to local natural materials, like wood and stone, to provide the perfect foundation for the space.
